Algal & Associates Ltd was founded in 1992, later, a part of it being reorganized into Algal Engineering Ltd. in 2004. With over 32 years of experience, Algal has been committed to approaching clients' needs with an open mind and a commitment to delivering innovative solutions to achieve ultimate client satisfaction. Furthermore, we are a first-class provider of engineering and project management services, taking pride in delivering quality services to our clients, and creating long-lasting relationships. Our staff's diverse set of skills enables Algal to engage with a wide variety of Engineering tasks across our three major sectors of expertise - Building Services, Power Systems, and Nuclear Engineering.

Getting to Know Us

Simona Saki, B. Sc.

Associate
Building Services Manager

Simona Saki has over 29 years of Electrical Engineering experience and has been part of the Algal team for 18 years. As Building Services Manager, Simona leads a highly dedicated team of expert engineers to complete projects to the satisfaction of our clients. She has gained a reputation for great team leadership and competence in projects spanning commercial and residential buildings, educational buildings, courthouses, hospitals, and government buildings. She is a great team leader and coordinates our Building Services Department delivering high quality engineering services for complete building systems. During her employment at Algal she has designed and managed projects for various clients in electrical, fire alarm, automation, security systems, building services and tenant fit-up. Simona is a valuable Algal team member, with wide-ranging design experience in power distribution, lighting and lighting control, protection and controls, electrical systems analysis, maintenance and commissioning.

Emilio Fong, P. Eng. PMP

Associate
Nuclear Engineering Manager

Emilio Fong has 18 years of Electrical Engineering and management experience in small to large capital projects. Emilio has been with the Algal team for 13 years. Emilio’s hard work and dedication translates perfectly to his managerial role. He leads a group of highly qualified and committed engineers to approach very complex and innovative projects in Power Generation. As the Nuclear Engineering Manager, he leads a qualified team of engineers who are well versed in design, implementation and QA requirements for engineering work in Nuclear Plants. He has diverse expertise in Power Systems and Nuclear Engineering and has managed intricate projects which involved design, construction, field support, testing, and commissioning for electrical distribution systems, substations, protections and controls, distributed generation, power system analysis and nuclear engineering. As a PMP certified Project Manager, Emilio has had extensive experience in various levels of power distribution systems for conventional and nuclear generation facilities.

Marian Ruiulescu, P. Eng.

Principal

Marian Ruiulescu is the founder and Principal of Algal Engineering Ltd. Marian has over 35 years of experience in various engineering disciplines, project management, and business development. He is a dedicated, dependable, and highly knowledgeable professional and an exceptional engineer. Alongside the extensive applied engineering experience, Marian leads a passionate team of engineers exemplifying a client-facing strategy and continuous drive to achieve ultimate satisfaction of all stakeholders in each project. As the business lead of the company, Marian has expanded Algal’s reach to the Building Services, Power Systems, and Nuclear Engineering sectors. He oversees the business and fosters both strong engineering goals and develops client relationships. His expertise has driven Algal’s business strategy of leading the company’s services towards innovative, sustainable and long-lasting engineering solutions. Under his leadership, Algal Engineering has successfully completed complex projects for various private and public Clients in Canada and the Caribbean and has significantly diversified its scope.

Narcisa Bosinceanu, B. Sc.

Office Manager

Narcisa has been part of the Algal for 19 years and has more than 40 years of total experience in the engineering field. During her time at Algal Engineering, Narcisa has been a central pillar of our team as one of Algal’s longest employees. Narcisa handles a variety of aspects from business development and lead creation, team coordination and contract administration, to managing client relations, and leading the company’s management team under Marian’s supervision. Narcisa is a hard-working and passionate individual, and she ensures the success of Algal in delivering services to the satisfaction of our clients. Narcisa is a central member of our team and helps oversee Algal’s general progress both in ongoing projects and the development of new opportunities and projects. As the Office Manager, Narcisa has participated in the expansion of business into different sectors and engineering disciplines and has ensured that all of our work is up to the standards of Algal’s ISO9001/2015 Quality Assurance program. She has gained a reputation for precision and quality work and is a versatile member of our team.

Anup Roy, CPA, CGA, FCCA

Controller

Anup Roy is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over 18 years of diverse experience in the field of Finance, Accounting, budgeting, and systems. At Algal he is the Financial Controller and the key person for financial information who oversees and manages all aspects of the financial operations of Algal Engineering Ltd. Since he started with Algal Engineering in 2016, he has been the primary of finance and contract administration and expert in managing the process.

As a Financial Controller he manages financial reports, budgeting and forecasting as well as project accounting. He has hands-on experience with project management and his focus is on maintaining accurate records of projects financial transactions and smooth close out.

Before joining Algal, he worked in a variety of retail and financial industries and with a long-proven record of performance, he is a resolute member of the Algal team. His strong business acumen and industry awareness allows him to devise leading strategies, make sound decisions, and ensure quality and overall company growth.

He is a member of Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and the Fellow member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of UK.

Marissa Villablanca, B. Sc.

Human Resources Manager

Marissa is the Human Resources Manager at Algal. She is the first point of contact for employees and external partners for any and all HR-related inquiries. In her role, Marissa has driven a positive employee experience and continued to foster Algal’s tradition of a close-knit, high-performing engineering team and a familial environment. As part of Algal’s HR team, Marissa focusses on employee relations as well as facilitating and introducing employees to training programs to ensure that their experience is both a productive and formative one. In addition to the pivotal role in coordinating new training and development program opportunities for our team members, Marissa plays a significant role in various internal programs such as the Innovation Box and administering important office events and initiatives. Marissa is also deeply involved in facilitating the continuous professional education for our team members and coordinating with many professionals to present information sessions to our engineers, helping Algal Engineering and the entire team be on the cutting edge of our field.
